
Bamboo is without a doubt one the world’s most versatile raw materials, which can be utilised from top to bottom. It is strong but lightweight building material that can be used to build anything from houses to rafts, and its fibre is used to make luxurious and ecological textiles.
Few in Europe are aware though, that bamboo can be processed into active coal which efficiently filters impurities from both air and water. Active coal also absorbs smells, which has given it almost a magical status as raw material around Asia.
Bamboo tar is a side produce of active coal. The tar has very low pH which makes is alkaline and perfect for cleaning impurities, and its smell and consistency are familiar to the Scandinavian sauna-lovers!
Greenstone is currently researching the use of bamboo tar as an extension to its product family, together with bamboo active coal.
